fancy friday

Ahh, Friday in sunny London town! So, looks like I was wrong about the whole Indian summer thing… the capital has had a second wind, and from my office window in the City I can hear the streets flooded with people enjoying a cheeky beer in the warm sunshine. And tonight I will join them. With a Cosmo. Speaking of Cosmopolitans, artist Kristina Hultkrantz (known on etsy as emmakisstina) caught my eye a few weeks back with her Hermès illustration (see here) and it’s her collection of iconic products and a few of our favourite things that I wanted to show you today. Along with the cocktail made famous by the SATC ladies, she’s captured classic style staples such as the Chanel 2.55, Loubs and the Mulberry Alexa. And a Ladurée macaroon for good measure. Her prints are so clean and, well, chic. I like the fact that they’re uncluttered, letting the subject shine through. I would love to have a gallery wall consisting of about ten of my favourites in simple white frames; I think that would look so striking. Especially in my dream closet, alongside the real deals. One day… *gazes into distance*

My look of the week goes to fashion (and real-life) royalty Charlotte Casiraghi, who has evidently inherited immaculate style from her mother and grandmother. Attending the unveiling of the Gucci Museo in Florence wearing Gucci (what else), she was a vision in emerald silk. As I mentioned here, emerald is a huge trend this season and has the ability to make clothes look incredibly luxe. Not that Gucci needs a colour in order to do that, but you know what I mean. My favourite room this week goes to a panelled, preppy, sophisticated space that is flooded with natural light. I can’t imagine it would hold up well to animals or children, though, so it would only suit a certain type of owner! One who had a Monica-like cleaning habit:

I hope you have a lovely weekend whatever you’re doing and wherever you may be…

special delivery

I have amazing friends. Words can’t even describe how much I love them. Shall I give you an example? I return home last night to find a package sent all the way from Mount Kisco, NY (it’s awesome, you should visit – it’s home to the ‘Kisco Disco’, uh-huh)… once inside, the tissue paper has a Kate Spade sticker on it, so I know it’s going to be good. It gets better. It’s only bloomin’ well the bracelet that I posted about here… the one marked ‘my favourite’. Seriously. I die. You know who you are, and you know how grateful I am. Happy Thursday everyone, I hope you’re all wearing a smile like mine.

black & gold

Fashion Week is currently residing in chic Milano and therefore we’ve been treated to the likes of Gucci, Prada, Giorgio Armani and Missoni. The show that stood out to me the most, however, was that of Mr Roberto Cavalli… it was pure opulence as pleated drop-waisted skirts, gold-rimmed jackets and glittering sequins sashayed their way down the catwalk. The stunningly beautiful collection reminded me of a room that I’d seen on the blog of talented illustrator Caitlin McGauley. I’ve featured black and white rooms on my blog before (see here), and I’m a little smitten by the dramatic effect that monochrome has, especially with a splash of gold. Having a love of both interiors and fashion I often see links between the two, and this is a prime example:

spotlight on: kindle house

I have a new discovery for you, and I have a feeling you’re going to like it. Its name is Kindle House and was lovingly brought to life by Emma Purvis on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The online store is pure heaven, and you can vividly see the type of lifestyle that Emma wanted to represent: chic rural living. The premises itself is a beauty, take a look for yourself on the gallery pages of the website. There are lots of shots of the store at Christmas, which makes me ridiculously excited about the festive season ahead. I’ve been told in no uncertain terms that the tree isn’t going up till December, but like Cher in Clueless, this is merely a jumping off point to start negotiations. Anyway, back to Kindle House… go take a look, and let me know what you think:

{1. Melamine cups – £4.95 / 2. Ceramic door knob – £3 / 3. Lisbeth Dahl silver letter/napkin holder – £17.95 / 4. Gisela Graham strawberry pitcher – £16.95 / 5. Circus throw – £46.50 / 6. all that glitters

Where did that weekend go? Really sad it’s over. I met up with new friends, caught up with old ones, and still had time to relax and catch my breath after a manic second week at my new job. Friday night at the BlogTour2011 event was fantastic. Not only did we gather in Sir Terence’s old apartment near Tower Bridge (think big windows, open-plan, gorgeous wooden decking) and learn about the Conran for M&S collection, but I got to meet a lot of talented designers and bloggers that have only been names to me before now, from both the UK and the US. I love the blogging community, so glad to be a part of it.
Onto today’s post and something that has always been close to my heart. Glitter. When I was about 16 and my friends and I used to go out (to Quasar or somewhere glamorous like that), we used to get ready together all dipping our fingers in pots of glitter, dousing our eyelids and cheekbones, and telling each other, “you can never have enough.” Ergo we used to go out looking like the Cullen family when they step into daylight. Here is some sparkly inspiration that caught my eye:

I still adore anything glittery to this day, and the item that stood out to me the most at New York and London fashion weeks wasn’t necessarily a garment on the catwalk, it was the uh-may-zing Miu Miu glitter booties that a lucky few were parading about in. I don’t think I go anywhere lavish enough to wear them without looking like I had raided a fancy dress box, but boy do they look pretty on other people’s feet:
