make a statement

I wear a lot of black, white, grey and navy, and in a bid to brighten up my neutral wardrobe I like throw in a splash of brightness with a statement necklace. One day in the not too distant future (hopefully after ‘Operation Bridal Body’), I will force myself to introduce colour to more than just my accessories… but for now, how amazing would these lot look with a plain white tank and black blazer?

sealed with a kiss

As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t do Valentine’s Day. I appreciate the sentiment behind it and the joy it can bring people, but it’s the tacky over-priced cards, men grudgingly picking up last-minute garage roses and the competitive, “oh, you went out to dinner? We went on a mini-break” nonsense that I can’t get on board with. However, I do adore stylish letterpress, contemporary calligraphy and a succinct, heartfelt message. Therefore these beauties would work every single day of the year… not just on Hallmark Day:

my weekend in pictures

On Saturday evening the snow arrived… and boy, did it fall. So I decided that in the circumstances, hibernation was the only option. My weekend involved Mr Clooney (I thought The Descendants was a rom-com. Not so much), homemade soup, a much appreciated present, and lots of blankets. How was yours?

fancy friday

Happy Friday everyone! I’m sure you’re all looking forward to the upcoming weekend as much as I am. It’s been an up and down kinda week, so I’m looking forward to heading out of London and up to my mum’s house in the country for some peace and tranquility, and a certain George Clooney on Saturday night. Sounds like the perfect combination to me. Here are a few images that I have been drawn to on Pinterest lately and which made me smile… some words that rang true with me, opal jewellery (I die for opals) and Marchesa + Kate Spade:

My look of the week goes to someone who has made a career out of being showy, however in this instance Kim K does understated. And quite beautifully. Yes, the labels are still on show, what with the Loubs and the Chanel 2.55 arm candy, however it’s the gorgous Elizabeth and James blazer paired with skinny navy jeans that makes this outfit. Not to mention that Hermès belt. And for my room of the week, this would be my perfect working environment. Tons of natural light, fresh air and plenty of room to be creative:

I hope you have a lovely weekend whatever you’re doing and wherever you may be…

On preferring the Hollywood of old: “I wish I was born at another time, so I could have done big musical productions. I would have been so happy. I’m very old-fashioned in that way. I love being an independent woman but, as a talent you were more nurtured then. Secretly, I wish I was owned by the studio.”
On her obsession with taking photos: “Why am I so fascinated with capturing moments? I’ll tell you why. Because I’ve had so much change in my life. My whole life things have changed constantly, so psychologically I’m sure I’m quite sentimental. I want to remember the feeling, not only what it looks like. When it’s happening, it’s so wonderful but I know it’s gonna change or not gonna last. Everything changes so I want to remember it because I feel grateful for it.”
On childhood and motherhood: “I’m very grateful that I didn’t have to grow up in the public eye and I got to grow up in Maine and have a real childhood. I do have my worries for Milo. I mean, we live in Manhattan in a huge house, and we have a staff, and we have a very different life. He would be happiest if we lived in the country somewhere, just the two of us.”
On her plans for the future: “I don’t have plans further than a couple of weeks ahead. If I’ve learned anything about life it’s that you don’t know what’s going to happen. I’d rather plan where I’m going to be today.”
