fancy friday

Even though my week’s only been four days, it’s been a hard ol’ slog. That’s why I couldn’t be happier to be meeting up with one of my absolute favourite people later on for an evening of cocktails, cheesy music and much-needed gossip. The rest of the weekend will be spent catching up with admin (I can’t physically bring myself to calling it “wedmin”, too twee) and emails that have been neglected for far too long. Rock n roll huh? Oh and there’ll be a nap thrown in too. It’s the weekend, folks. Don’t hate. Now, if you had shifted your eyesight south before reading this, you’ll have seen the vision that is Marchesa at NYFW. Marchesa deliver THE most breathtaking collection every single fashion week. Ok, so Elie Saab are up there too, but it’s something about the tulle and the embroidery and the feathers that makes it feel like you’re inside a dream. Basically it’s fairytale clothing and I cannot wait to see the likes of Elle Fanning, Lively, Kruger and Camilla Belle bring these esquisite gowns to life on the red carpet:

For my look of the week, I’ve done a complete 180 on last week’s choice. That was sleek and black, this is fun and massively colourful. Poppy Delevingne carries off most things well, but she looks especially good in short and flirty… and it may have been the very fashionable ‘Elle Style Awards’, but that didn’t stop the intrepid socialite from opting for a high street choice. The slicked back ponytail is the perfect style in order to keep the Topshop dress the centre of attention. For my room of the week I went for an unapologetically girly bedroom, with a clothes rail providing a unique headboard. And those white-washed floorboards are divine:

I hope you have a brilliant weekend whatever you’re doing and wherever you may be…

interior trend: loaded trays

I like to keep things as orderly as possible at home, which is not always easy when our flat is bursting at the seams with stuff (our cellar which used to hold 2 boxes, is now home to 302. It’s not pretty). One way to keep items organised is by the use of the humble tray. Once used to carry tea and biscuits into the sitting room on a Sunday afternoon, it is now seen featuring coffee table books, candles, flowers, liquor bottles, perfume and miscellaneous beauty ‘accoutrements’. Be they wooden, Lucite or metallic, trays are the perfect place to house bits and pieces that would otherwise be scattered around the room gathering dust. So tell me, lovely readers… are you on board with the tray trend?

spotlight on: swoon worthy homewares

I love it when fellow style bloggers read your mind. So when the lovely Kimberly from Swoon Worthy announced that she was launching a homewares store (see here) that stocks cushions in the preppy geometric prints that we see so often across the pond, but NEVER in the UK, I was ecstatic. Although you can occasionally find gorgeous patterned fabrics over here, more often than not we’re drowning in florals and, well, predictable designs. You only have to check out my blog background to realise my penchant for chevron print (as well as the back of my iPhone), and I’m also extremely partial to the diamond and chain designs seen below. I mean, seriously… I’m in love:

To celebrate the launch of her exciting new venture, Kimberly is hosting a giveaway over at the fab Florence Finds… so go forth and bring some modern and most definitely swoon-worthy decor to your homes!

VB at NYFW

When Posh first started designing, didn’t we all think it was going to be just a phase? Something to disguise the fact that she was basically just a WAG who’d once been a sub-standard singer (apart from My Heart’s Got a Mind of its Own, which is a classic of our time). But turns out, she’s pretty darn talented. Her collection has become the must-see show at NYFW. Not least because Becks shows up looking beautiful, sits next to Anna Win-tour, and furrows his brow in a serious yet supportive manner. Which must have been mighty distracting for the models walking past:

Anyway, back to the clothes, and VB has once again nailed it with a fall collection that has a military edge but still manages to be ladylike. Come the autumn anyone who’s anyone will be wearing tailored dresses with thick socks, flat boots and a double belt. Colour is sparse, but I like to think it harks back to her Posh Spice days circa Say You’ll Be There. Well done VB, you’ve done us proud:

fancy friday

Hurrah for the weekend! Another three-day one for me (smug? Moi? Never), and another trip out to the countryside. It’s a hard life. Do you have any exciting plans? Whilst flicking through the numerous home decor magazines strewn (read: stacked in chronological order) around my flat, one store name pops up time and time again: the French Bedroom Company. Although some of their furniture is a little, what’s the word, flouncy, for my taste, they do have some real gems. Take for example the white nailhead trim chair and the Paris screen… I’m completely smitten. As the cushion so rightly says: LOVE. Oh, and what’s that? A Temperley scented candle? Go on then:

Thandie Newton is the worthy winner of my look of the week, since sometimes you don’t need all the bells and whistles of a Roberto Cavalli or a Matthew Williamson. Sometimes sleek and black is enough. More than enough. Thandie looks so elegant in this one-shoulder Osman dress, with simple gold accessories and shiny hair as the cherry on top. And for my room of the week, well, just look. Even though the lightbulbs must be a b***h to change, it would totally be worth it. The floors! The fireplace! The windows! Good lord, this is what heaven must look like:
