the art of raoul dufy

Do you have an artist that you love every single piece they’ve ever created? For me, that artist is Raoul Dufy. There was always a bit of a collection of his work around our family home, being a favourite of my darling Dad’s, which is how I came to know about him. Now, I can pick out his paintings in an instant, just from his use of colour and love of seaside settings, cityscapes, and racecourses and horses. I’d love to own one of his most colourful pieces and theme a room round it. Especially the first one below… I don’t think the shades could get any better:

objects of desire: navy edition

Morning folks! How are you? Hope you had a good weekend. I invested in a Christmas scented candle and some mulled wine, and spent a large portion of mine listening to festive tunes. The fact that it’s still November hasn’t escaped my attention… I’m just too excited and am fully empathising with this little boy. Best. Advert. Ever. Anyway, back to Monday and today’s post. After checking out NET-A-PORTER’s new editions, I was drawn to a certain theme: navy and neutrals. Be they camel, nude, gold or even leopard, the combination is perfection. Now, I do understand that you may glance at the below and shriek, “£880 for a WHAT NOW?”, but that is why this post is called ‘Objects of desire’. Unless your last name is Ecclestone or Kardashian… and in that case, whip out your flexible friends and go nuts (I’ll have a #2 and a #3, please).

remember them

Just a quick note from me this Friday. Day-to-day my blog touches on subjects that in the grand scheme of things, don’t really make a huge difference. It’s about the little details that decorate your life and that, if they’re your thing, may bring a smile to your face should you be having a particularly ‘blah’ Tuesday. Therefore on days like today, I feel especially humbled by those who have served their country and given the ultimate sacrifice in order that we are able to enjoy the freedom that we do today. So to all those who are either no longer with us, enjoying their retirement or still fighting for us to this day, I will remain ever grateful and in awe. Happy weekend everyone.

style stalker: miranda kerr

One star who has recently been on my style radar is Miranda Kerr. Of course she’s known for being Orlando’s wife, a Vicky’s Secret model and the owner of a body that would surely not have sprung back so quickly after having a baby in the real world, but as well as all that, her fashion prowess is something to behold. Miranda’s ‘off duty’ looks are always impeccable… whether she’s running between shows at Paris fashion week (never have shorts and t-shirt looked so chic), or sashaying through the airport, Kerr nails it every time. I’ve honestly never seen her in a bad outfit. Browsing through her past looks, a certain theme crops up time and time again: monochrome. Very French. Very Chanel. So here’s Miranda’s black and white master-class, and how you can emulate her effortless “oh, this old thing?” style:

on the R-Pattz rumours: “People can say whatever they want. The interest is totally understandable, but when it’s personal to you, it’s like your life becomes a product, and I’m repelled by that. I don’t like to give away gems that people are gonna be like ‘Oh my God!’ So I’ll always just shrug it off – in fact, I always find it kind of funny, and not just with Rob.”
on the Breaking Dawn x-rated scenes: “It was tame! I’ve done my share of coming-of-age movies, but the ratings board know who our audience is, and can be like, ‘Hmm guys, just cool it a little.’ It’s funny, because in the book, you don’t see anything. It’s everyone’s imagination, so it’s entirely subjective. I hope it’s good!”
on the hype around the wedding dress: “I had to be so shrouded in secrecy the entire two days of filming… it was crazy. I was on full lockdown, as if I was wearing millions of dollars’ worth of diamonds, but it’s just a dress. I think the dress is beautiful, and I’m so excited for the wedding to be revealed. It was one of those moments you go, ‘This is something to remember.’
on getting in shape for honeymoon scenes: “Usually we’re all making fun of Taylor (Lautner) for working out so often, and then suddenly me and Rob were like, ‘Sh*t!’ and were running around the block while Taylor laughed at us.”
on her co-stars featuring on Glamour’s top 50 sexiest men list: “The first time Rob was ‘sexiest man in the world’ a couple of years ago, it was the biggest joke in the world. We never stopped taking the p*ss, and neither did he. But they’re all great guys and not… geez, now I sound like I’m generalising about attractive men, but there’s something a little vain about working out every single day, whereas they’re the greatest guys and all kind of goofy. That’s why it’s so funny.”
