getting ahead of myself

You know how it is. Even before your boyfriend has put the ring on your finger, you can’t help but imagine your wedding. Like, every single detail. I’m not gonna lie, I was the same (this is no secret, Tom was totally aware). And now with houses on our minds, in my head I’ve decorated the whole thing… down to the last vignette. Even though there is no house yet. It’s good to have a hobby, right? So, in terms of the living area I have my heart set on a corner sofa; since one of my favourite things to do is simultaneously surf the interweb and watch Gossip Girl, that couch is going to have to be good. And when all the surfing and outfit judging is finished, then I’ll probably need to have a lie down and nap on that very same sofa. So it needs to be big. Which is also necessary seeing as it will be home to multiple useless but pretty cushions. Tell me, are you a fan of corner sofas? And do you imaginery decorate?

october wish list

New season, new wish list. As I mentioned last week, I’m all about the cosy at the moment… it was such a beautiful autumnal weekend, bright and crisp and full of Christmas-is-just-around-the-corner promise. I’m literally counting down the days till I can have the first play of that Pogues song. I really am obsessed with the festive season. Anyway, back to the job in hand – here is my latest ‘Currently Craving’ list, which are so much fun to put together. I’m spending a lot of time looking at homewares at the moment (more than usual), as Tom and I have houses permanently on the brain. Do we buy? Do we rent? Where exactly do we want to be? So many questions, but one thing I know for sure is that my mood boards and I are gonna be ready.

how the other half live: reese witherspoon

Well, trust the lovely Reese Witherspoon to have an equally lovely home. It just suits her, doesn’t it? The now mother-of-three (with new baby “Tennessee”… too cute in Reese’s southern drawl) has turned this gorgeous Spanish-style ranch into a haven of peace, despite the fact that horses, donkeys, goats, pigs, chickens and dogs also call it home. Witherspoon had help from her friend Kristen Buckingham to maintain its original architectural elements, but also add a pretty modern touch. That ikat chair and reading nook were what first hooked me, but the hits kept on coming… the exposed beams, stucco walls, the elegant yet homely soft furnishings. Reese has done an amazing job turning this place into the pefect home for her perfect little family of mini-me’s. As Elle Woods would have said, “What? Like it’s hard?

chanel couture fall 2012

You can always rely on Chanel to deliver a breathtaking sartorial display. This was never more the case than at the Couture Fall 2012 show where greys, silvers, pinks and blushes (with just a hint of black… hey, this is Chanel) were the order du jour. And glitter tights are back! My 10-year-old self is beside herself with glee. I love the range of textures and can’t wait to see these outfits brought to life on the red carpet by Lively, Bilson et al:

Stunning, right? And since fashion and interiors are always so closely related in my mind, I wanted to translate the runways looks into rooms… Chanel + pink & grey decor = happiness.

take the girl out the city

Everything knows Whitney Port, right? LC’s wingwoman in the Teen Vogue fashion closet, who then went on to have her own show that launched Olivia Palermo into the stratosphere. You with me? Well, she’s the latest subject for The Coveteur, that glorious website that combines fashion, interiors, and amazing styling and photography. Now the designer of her very own label, Whitney Eve, our girl Whit is back living in Cali after her stint in NYC, and to be honest it’s where her laid-back, girly style is much more at home. Being the über-fan that I am of all these MTV reality shows (yes, I do own the boxsets), I can spot that familiar devore sofa and the yellow dress that she wore on her first day at DVF. Had I worn the same thing to my first day at my new job last week, I would have been laughed at and promptly shown the door. If only I had a camera crew.
