fancy friday

Happy Friday! I’m writing this from sunny Dorset by the sea… we’re staying in a beautiful cottage for the weekend for my mum’s *whisper* 60th birthday. She’s mortified that I’ve disclosed her age, but if you met her you would see that she doesn’t look anywhere near that. Daughter brownie points?! Anyway, we’re looking forward to scouring the (what I call) “bitty bit” shops for house trinkets, wandering around the harbour and enjoying lovely meals with family and friends, and a glass of bubbles or two. Do you have any exciting plans?
As promised, here are some snapshots from my holiday in the South of France. It was a blissful week and the area surrounding our villa was beyond stunning. We were nestled in the Pyrenees mountains, with views that didn’t even look real. The region has dozens of near perfect castles positioned on the peaks – it really was like going back in time. I may have come back several lbs heavier after a diet that consisted solely of bread, cheese and wine, but what’s a holiday without indulgence? And quaint little French markets. And napping. LOTS of napping.

My look of the week was a tough one seeing as NYFW dictated that A-listers were dressing up to the nines to perch daintily on the front row and look suitably bored. But ignoring the likes of Palermo et al, I’ve gone for Emily Blunt who looks devilishly good in Prada at the première for her upcoming film Your Sister’s Sister. It’s a very chic and simple look with muted colour blocking and minimal fuss in terms of accessories. As for my room of the week, I fell in love with the combination of red, white and blue… throw in some plantation shutters and a clawfoot bath and I’m a goner. And those cupboard doors are perfection:

I hope you have a beautiful weekend whatever you’re doing and wherever you may be…

The Coveteur was positively made for my blog… fashion and interiors all under one roof. Like Toys R Us, but with style. As previously mentioned here, this website delves into the homes and closets of some of the chicest people in the bizz, and thanks to the beautiful photography and artistic vision of the creators, the images are uh-may-zing. This particular covetable wardrobe belongs to Gucci Westman, who was hardly going to grow up to be a dinner lady with a name like that.

She is make-up artist extraordinaire, powdering the faces of starlets such as Paltrow, Portman and Diaz, but has also been the other side of the camera, appearing in Vogue and the first (and only, in my mind) SATC movie. Her New York apartment is littered with delicious pieces of Chanel, Balenciaga and Isabel Marant, and can we also please mention the exposed brick walls, wooden floors and industrial touches? Gucci, my love, I do envy you juuust an iota:

new term

So I get home from the lovely sunny blissful holiday in France (will post pics soon for those of you who’d like to see our ridiculously idyllic villa and surroundings – I won’t be offended if you don’t) to find fallen leaves on our street, and you know what? It made me excited for the new season and everything that the remaining months of the year have to bring. Today I start a new events job, so it’s with sharpened pencils and shiny new shoes that I join the other London commuters, all ready for this new adventure. Ok, part ready, part totally-anxious-will-they-like-me-am-I-up-to-the-task… but it’s always the same with first days, right? So with a ‘Back to School’ feeling in the air, here are the accessories I’d choose to start term off on the right foot. I’m especially in love with the LK Bennett “I’ve got new boots” boots:

{French Connection Way Tweed coat – £165 / LK Bennett Covent ankle boot – £345 / ASOS vintage style satchel – £42 / Aspinal of London leather diary – £39}

cable vision

Cable is cool… fact. Those bobbly woollies that your mum used to make you wear for winter walks are having their day, as Dakota, Sienna and Rachel are proof of (and quite frankly if Bilson approves, then I’m on board):

I can’t wait for autumn to really set it, as I LOVE this time of year (give me a Christmas build-up and I couldn’t be happier); cold, crisp days and Sunday lunches by a roaring fire. Perfection. So here is my pick of the cable knits on the high street in a rainbow of colours. Pair with your favourite jeans and some warm boots and you’re good to go:

{1. Topshop cable jumper – £38 / 2. Linea knitted jumper – £55 / 3. Topshop aran cable jumper – £38 / 4. Reiss Dalia cable knit – £89 / 5. Oasis cable knit top – £50 / 6. USC cable knit cardigan – £65 / 7. Topshop fluffy cable jumper – £40 / 8. New Look chunky cardigan – £19.99 / 9. Jack Wills Thelby sweater – £69}

fancy friday

I’m beyond excited at this point. I go on holiday tomorrow! One week staying at a villa in the South of France with my family and boyfriend, where I intend to do nothing but read books by the pool (including ‘One Day’ – I feel like the last person on the planet that hasn’t read it), eat French sticks and smelly cheese, and drink wine. And sleep. I’m also stupidly excited to be going on a plane journey that isn’t part of a work trip – it’s the simple things! I hope that you all have a lovely week. I promise to provide a few posts to keep you going with and even take a couple of snapshots in between naps, and I’ll see you on the other side. I guess I’d better think about packing…

Now, I’m aware that I may as well call this feature ‘Diane Kruger’s Look of the Week’, but bear with me. It’s Kruger. In Elie Saab. That just can’t be ignored. I desperately tried to find an alternative, even convincing myself that SJP in a floral Prabal Gurung could challenge for the title. So I asked my boyfriend to cast the deciding vote… to be the ‘Simon’, if you will. He replied, “Kruger looks classy and elegant, SJP looks like a foot.” So that settled it, I went for the un-foot-like Kruger. As for my room of the week, I took one look at that gold and glass table and crowned it the winner. The white sofa, bold artwork and rug, and vibrant flowers are all gorgeous, but that table knows that it’s centre of attention:
