all that glitters

Where did that weekend go? Really sad it’s over. I met up with new friends, caught up with old ones, and still had time to relax and catch my breath after a manic second week at my new job. Friday night at the BlogTour2011 event was fantastic. Not only did we gather in Sir Terence’s old apartment near Tower Bridge (think big windows, open-plan, gorgeous wooden decking) and learn about the Conran for M&S collection, but I got to meet a lot of talented designers and bloggers that have only been names to me before now, from both the UK and the US. I love the blogging community, so glad to be a part of it.
Onto today’s post and something that has always been close to my heart. Glitter. When I was about 16 and my friends and I used to go out (to Quasar or somewhere glamorous like that), we used to get ready together all dipping our fingers in pots of glitter, dousing our eyelids and cheekbones, and telling each other, “you can never have enough.” Ergo we used to go out looking like the Cullen family when they step into daylight. Here is some sparkly inspiration that caught my eye:

I still adore anything glittery to this day, and the item that stood out to me the most at New York and London fashion weeks wasn’t necessarily a garment on the catwalk, it was the uh-may-zing Miu Miu glitter booties that a lucky few were parading about in. I don’t think I go anywhere lavish enough to wear them without looking like I had raided a fancy dress box, but boy do they look pretty on other people’s feet:

fancy friday

So that was my first 5-day week for a long time (I know, no sympathy), and it’s completely taken it out of me. Can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to a weekend with next to no plans. Except X Factor. Obv. Ooh, and tonight I have plans to go to Conran & Company HQ for a BlogTour2011 event. Thanks so much to My Deco for the invitation, I can’t wait to meet the UK and US bloggers who are attending. Not only do we get to see Sir Terence Conran’s apartment, we’ll also be viewing the new contemporary collection for M&S… so exciting.
I think it’s next week that the new season of Gossip Girl starts (it had better be, I can’t wait much longer), so thought I’d focus on the stand-out star of the show, Blair Waldorf. Yes, Serena may have the hair and the legs, but Blair has the razor-sharp wit, the compassion and the brains that SVDW patently lacks. I also love that she embraces quirkier fashion choices, totally owning every one. Even K-Middy styles herself on Miss Waldorf. Probably a coincidence, but that’s what I like to think. And then there’s Blair and Chuck – basically Ross and Rachel 2.0, but with scheming. I cannot wait to see what this season will bring (both fashion and story-wise)… who’s with me?

I know earlier this week I posted an autumnal look (see here), but this outfit that Charlize Theron donned at an HTC launch event transported me right back to summer. The colour is amaze, and works so well with her colouring. Emerald is huge at the moment and I think it looks especially good with a touch of metallic. This look is slightly ‘throw on a kaftan for the beach’, but Charlize looks like a green goddess in this Chloé number, so she’s forgiven. As for my room of the week… well, for one it matches my blog’s background. Reason enough? Oh and the duvet/pillow combo is perfection, as is the wallpaper against the gold accents. There, I’ve justified it:

I hope you have a wonderful weekend whatever you’re doing and wherever you may be…

Indian summer? Never gonna happen. It’s time to get cosy, people…

a taste of summer

We’re now fully ensconced in London Fashion Week (I say “we”, my invites are suspiciously absent…), which gives us an opportunity to reflect on last week’s shows in NYC. Trends such as sportswear chic, old Hollywood glamour and florals (it’s S/S, of course there are going to be florals) were apparent, however it was the range of colours that appealed to me the most. It’s definitely going to be a colourful season, with citrus and pastel shades cropping up in collections time and time again. Yellow is my absolute favourite colour, so the sunshine hues made me extremely happy knowing that they’re going to be reflected on the high street next year. The delicate pastels created a subtle contrast (how stunning is that drop-waisted Jill Stuart dress?) and, yep, orange is back. Now orange and I never really got that friendly this summer – perhaps as a result of growing up with those ubiquitous ‘You’ve been Tango’d’ adverts – but maybe I’ll give it another chance. I’ll start with an orange bangle and go from there. What are your thoughts on these S/S12 trends?

big news. big. huge.

Kate Spade has finally reached our shores, opening not one but TWO stores (Sloane Square and Covent Garden). That’s all.

See you there?!
