most coveted

Everybody likes a good nosy around other people’s things, right? As my blog has proven, I have a penchant for skulking around the interiors of famous individuals (as seen here, here & here), but thanks to the ingenious website, The Coveteur – not to be confused with The Coveted, which was easily done until its founders bowed to pressure and changed its name from the very same thing – you get to uncover the secrets of many a fashionista’s most prized possession… their closet. As with most great ideas, the premise is a simple one: take a designer (Erin Kleinberg), a stylist (Stephanie Mark) and a talented photographer (Jake Rosenberg), and let them loose in the enviable wardrobes of fashion’s big hitters. The result is beyond ridiculous. I mean, just look. We’re talking Gucci and Pucci and Prada (oh my!), with a side order of Mulberry, Jason Wu and vintage Chanel. With some classic high street pieces thrown in for good measure. These are their actual closets in their actual homes, so you get to house snoop and wardrobe snoop all in one. No need to thank me… just take a look at my personal favourites, then head over and continue the covetousness (it’s a word… I checked):

in their own words: jennifer aniston

{words & images via Red Magazine}
on her universal appeal: “You know what? I think people just want to laugh. There’s so much going on in the world right now weighing heavy on everybody’s minds and hearts, that you want to just get out there and disappear and be silly and have a laugh. At other people just being silly.”
on dealing with the fame-game: “Fame is an odd beast. Because it’s not real. There’s nothing real about it. Sometimes, you wake up and think, “I don’t know if I’m as big as this beast. Will today be the day when it gets me?” Because you’re only one person like everybody else, with veins and a heart, and yet you’re projected as almost superhuman. There’s certain things that come with that – cameras in your face, lies, rumours, the part of you that wants to give and the part you have to keep desperately to yourself. Because there’s so much that’s picked at or taken or wanted.”
on running off with George Clooney: *laughs uproariously* “That would definitely shut up the world! I could call up George, say, “Hon, let’s just get hitched and have kids…” I should take George to lunch and we can figure out how to put an end to all this… Ha! Well… No.”
on choosing between great love or an amazing career: “That’s a no-brainer. I would choose the love of my life. The truth is, you can’t have just the love, either. You have to have a balance in life. You also have to have your own personal love: what inspires you, what excites you when you wake up in the morning.”
on the importance of friendships: “Where would you be without friends? Where would you be without people to pick you up when you need lifting? As we know, myself and a lot of my friends, we’ve come from homes that were far from perfect, so you end up almost parent and sibling to your friends, and vice versa. Your own chosen family. There’s nothing like a really loyal, dependable, good friend. Nothing.”

bath & beyond

Good morning! I hope you all had lovely weekends… hopefully basking in the same glorious sunshine that London has been enjoying. I definitely soaked up the rays, dined al fresco and brought dresses out of my closet that haven’t seen the light of day since last August. Add my Ray Ban aviators and the smell of suncream on my skin, and you’re talking one happy girl.
If the thought of facing a Monday morning after spending the weekend chilling out seems pretty grim, then I have some images for you that might just trick your mind into remaining stress-free. Bathtubs. And more specifically, free-standing bathtubs. I dream of the day I can own such a bath (and a chandelier… there has to be a chandelier involved), as spending time in the tub does take up a large proportion of my week. We’re talking on average four hour-long sessions, which looking at it in black and white, probably isn’t that normal. If ever I need to get rid of any tension or unwind after a long day then hook me up with a hot bubble bath, a glass of wine, a magazine and some soothing music, and I come out a different person… as well as being severely wrinkled. Tell me, are you a bath person?

a brain of two halves

At first glance, these look like a series of abstract pieces of art, however they were part of a clever ad campaign by Mercedes Benz… prompting you to consider whether the left or the right side of your brain is the more dominant:

Without even reading the text, I can tell that I’m more of a right-side girl. I’m immediately drawn to the vibrant colours and splash of creativity. Here is the list of characteristics for each half:

Yep, that’s settled… without question I’m a rightie. I’m definitely controlled by the more emotional, subjective side of my brain, and adore anything that involves imagination and passion. Although, all that being said, I do like a bit of organisation and good grammar. So I guess that’s the left side in action!
What side are you dominated by?

jewellery giveaway!

My beloved style blog, {what you fancy}, is 100 posts old! Although this may not be a major milestone in most people’s books, I felt like I wanted to mark the occasion by treating you all to a jewellery giveaway. For it’s been your loyal (and much appreciated) support that has meant that this blog has been growing from strength to strength since the end of 2010. I’ve loved everything about the process; from coming up with a concept, to spending hours researching posts, following other blogs and Twitter accounts, discovering like-minded people (turns out there’s an absolute army of home decor/fashion/celebrity-obsessed folks out there!), making new friends and connecting with old ones, receiving such kind comments and emails, and basically having a creative outlet that I’ve been craving for years. So thank you. Please continue to follow {what you fancy}, and in the not too distant future, I promise that {weddings you fancy} will be following suit!

So onto the prizes! With the help of the lovely Nicky (my new-found cousin – the blogosphere is like an online ‘Surprise, Surprise’) at From Britain With Love, I am bringing you not one, but two, exciting giveaways. The first is a pair of elegant Swarovski crystal earrings from Alyssa Smith, and the second is a gorgeous vintage button charm bracelet from Mrs Gibson’s Atelier… as shown below:

So, how do you go about entering? Follow the instructions below (IMPORTANT: you need to do both steps 1 AND 2)… one entry per person, please, and bear in mind that your entry will be for either of the prizes. Your last chance to enter is next Thursday and I will be selecting the winners from a random number generator, and announcing the names next Friday. I would be so grateful if you could spread the word on Facebook, Twitter or on your blog – thank you so much! And good luck!

NB: The ‘Like’ button for this blog is under the ‘Search’ function, at the top right of the page.
Here is a little more about Alyssa Smith and Mrs Gibson’s Atelier (huge thanks to both for donating such lovely prizes!):

Alyssa Smith is a Hertfordshire-based jewellery designer, and at just 24 years old her business has flourished and her bold silver designs have been spotted on the likes of Sienna Miller, and in the pages of Vogue and Marie Claire. As well as the beautiful jewellery featured on her website, which are influenced by, “nature, organic forms and magical fairy tale themes”, Alyssa also takes on commissions for unique bespoke pieces.

Inspired by flea markets, antique fairs and charity shops, Sam Gibson of Mrs Gibson’s Atelier works with vintage materials to bring real character and whimsy to her one of a kind jewellery pieces. Sam’s original creations have featured in magazines such as Woman & Home and You & Your Wedding, and can also be found on Folksy, Not Mass Produced, Da Wanda and Etsy. Sam is also open to undertaking commissions.
Both true British success stories!
