fall into fall

And so another week starts… hope you all had lovely weekends. Being home in the Shire made me realise that autumn is properly here. Living and working in London means that you rarely get to see Mother Nature in all her glory, so driving through the country lanes for the first time since summer, through tunnels of trees, took my breath away. It was reminiscent of fall in New England; I tried to take pictures using my iPhone whilst walking my mum’s dog, but the outcome was frankly pathetic. To give you an idea of the kind of colours and sunlight involved, take a look at the picture of the golden leaves below (as well as some other images that make me want to get all wrapped up):

With all this cosiness in mind, my outfits are starting to consist of tall boots over skinny jeans and chunky knits, with my new military-style coat thrown over the top. These are the types of looks I’ll be aiming to emulate this season:

And here are some pieces from the high street that would help me to achieve the autumnal snug-as-a-bug-but-still-chic look I’m after:

{1. Topshop faux fur coat – £85 / 2. Topshop felt shopper – £32 / 3. USC skinny jeans – £55 / 4. Timberland buckle tall boot – £153 / 5. Huntington & Co cable cardigan – £55 / 6. Toast fair isle gloves – £29 / 7. A/wear crew neck jumper – £13.50 / 8. Vivienne Westwood classic scarf – £60 / 9. Reiss Jilsy knit dress – £139}

fancy friday

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you’ve had a good week. Mine has been spent celebrating wherever possible, and this weekend will be no different. I’m heading back to the country to share yet more bubbles with family and close friends, and just enjoy the ridiculously-happy-on-cloud-nine feeling that isn’t going anywhere fast. Am I nauseating? Ok, I’ll stop. Let’s talk interiors instead. A look that I am borderline obsessed with at the moment is Persian rugs. I’ve spent more time than is probably normal checking out some absolute beauties on eBay… even though I’m not actually in the market for an oriental rug at the moment, it can’t hurt to look, right? They look great anywhere (especially in the kitchen, gotta say). Even if a room has a stark, minimalist feel, add a Persian and it ups the cosy factor ten-fold. Another benefit of these rugs is that, as with Mulberry bags and George Clooney, they just get better with age. Are you a fan? Where do you think they look best in the home?

My look of the week goes to a Fancy Friday favourite, Camilla Belle. She is seriously flawless in this Ralph Lauren gown and fuchsia lips, and the detail on the train of the dress is exquisite. If I could look even one tenth as pulled together as this, I would be happy. As for my room of the week, well, of course it had to feature a Persian, but it also includes a sofa that may not be conducive to a TV dinner of beans on toast (especially with my tendency to spill), but sure as hell looks purdy:

I hope you have an amazing weekend whatever you’re doing and wherever you may be…

winter warmers

Even though the weather is refusing to do what it’s supposed to do this time of year (18 degrees? How can I get all cosy and festive with that kind of temperature?), I’m prepared for the change of season with a grey marl military coat… i.e. not black. This is a big step for me. There are a lot of military, double-breasted coats with large shiny buttons on the high street, and I think they work equally well with both your Monday-Friday work uniform or for a more casual look at weekends. Other winter coat trends this season include bright colours (maybe next year I’ll be brave enough – it’s baby steps with the grey) and capes. Here is my pick of the high street:

{1. Miss Selfridge twill military coat – £45 / 2. USC military duffle coat – £49 / 3. Planet short military coat – £129 / 4. Dorothy Perkins pink swing coat – £69 / 5. Oasis funnel neck coat – £95 / 6. Miss Selfridge duffle coat – £57 / 7. Oasis check cape – £95 / 8. Oasis funnel neck cape – £95 / 9. Topshop borg collar cape – £65}

ring the changes

I’m back! It’s been quite a week. Firstly I had the biggest and most complicated event I’ve ever organised on Friday and Saturday, which had me working all hours and being the only thing I could think about (thankfully it went off very well)… then on Sunday my boyfriend proposed. We were at home, it was romantic and amazing, and I have been wearing the biggest smile ever since. I am also wearing temporary bling (which I love so much for what it represents) until we hit the shops this week. I am quite possibly the pickiest person in the world when it comes to jewellery, hence the decision to err on the side of caution! Here are some images from the last few days:

{a glass or two of bubbles to celebrate}

{lunch with my mum yesterday and a striking Veuve Clicquot Smeg}

{rounding off a perfect day with a trip to the newly opened Kate Spade}
As well as carrying on with {what you fancy}, I now have extra reason to get {weddings you fancy} up and running. LOTS of exciting things ahead.

Quite frankly, who am I to argue?
