another brick in the wall

Before I found my current flat I looked at a building which had living space very much akin to a hotel. It was completely soulless. As much as I love staying in hotels when I’m on holiday, I certainly wouldn’t like to live in one. Blank walls, straight lines, that “new” smell… basically devoid of any personality. Which is why as soon as I stepped into my present place, I knew instantly that it was the one for me. It has stripped floorboards which creak, a (non-working but) beautiful fireplace, antique taps, sash windows and character. I don’t know about you, but I gotta have features, period or otherwise. Which is why I’m more than a little enamoured with exposed brick walls. Of course, there are brick walls and there are brick walls (unworn bricks? Yeuch), but I’m thinking along these lines:

If you’re a fan of the texture but like things to be a little more uniform when it comes to the finish, then how about painting over the bricks. I’m a big fan of the whitewashed look, but that mint is heaven:

objects of desire

All this gorgeous sunshine is making me crave a pop (or two) of neon… and my penchant for leather trousers is growing by the day:

spotlight on: fenella smith tableware

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all enjoyed the gorgeous weather we’ve been having in the UK… aahh, so excited that the evenings are lighter, my flip flops are being dusted off and the bright yellow thing in the sky is seemingly with us for quite some time. Today I wanted to introduce you to a lady who, in her own words, loves “to make beautiful, well-made, home-grown objects that make daily life that little bit more delightful.” Sounds good to me! Fenella Smith’s collections focus on favourite memories, as well as creating tableware that people would fall in love with. I adore her charming designs, especially the animal ones, having grown up with pets who were as much part of our family as the human members. So, lovely readers, please go take a look and let me know what you think:

interior trend: spring pastels

I’ve been loving all the pastel colours of the S/S season on the high street, so when House Beautiful dropped through my door yesterday, the cover image (seen below) made me squeal with delight. That sofa! That rug! That paint colour! So there was nothing else for it but to show you how to recreate the look, if you happen to be feeling as Springy as I am. Springy… that’s a word, right?!

sanctuary in paris

It Girl, Fashionista, Muse, Girl about Town, whatever you want to call her, Olivia Palermo has it pretty sweet. Not only could she wear a hessian sack and make it look expensive, but her job is to travel the world and stay in the most fabulous hotels, attend glamourous parties, sit on the F-ROWs of whichever shows she chooses, and shop. Oh and she goes out with the equally genetically-blessed Johannes Huebl… which can’t be a huge strain on her, let’s be honest (please can they just get married already, can you imagine the wedding?).
So in homage to OP, here are some pics from the Lifestyle Mirror taken when she and Huebl took “refuge” from the paparazzi (poor lambs) in Paris’s Le Meurice hotel. I especially love the second photo down; they’re clearly thinking, “Look at how good we look, it’s hilarious!”. And if you want to feel a little bit nauseous, there’s a black and white video of them dancing in the woods. Like you do.
