cable vision

Cable is cool… fact. Those bobbly woollies that your mum used to make you wear for winter walks are having their day, as Dakota, Sienna and Rachel are proof of (and quite frankly if Bilson approves, then I’m on board):

I can’t wait for autumn to really set it, as I LOVE this time of year (give me a Christmas build-up and I couldn’t be happier); cold, crisp days and Sunday lunches by a roaring fire. Perfection. So here is my pick of the cable knits on the high street in a rainbow of colours. Pair with your favourite jeans and some warm boots and you’re good to go:

{1. Topshop cable jumper – £38 / 2. Linea knitted jumper – £55 / 3. Topshop aran cable jumper – £38 / 4. Reiss Dalia cable knit – £89 / 5. Oasis cable knit top – £50 / 6. USC cable knit cardigan – £65 / 7. Topshop fluffy cable jumper – £40 / 8. New Look chunky cardigan – £19.99 / 9. Jack Wills Thelby sweater – £69}

how the other half live: sheryl crow

Prepare to be just a teensy bit jealous. Not only is Sheryl Crow best friends with Jennifer Aniston, she also owns the most beautiful home in the Hollywood Hills that she decorated herself (I know, unheard of for a s’leb), and I’m going to hazard a guess that you’ll like it. Crow shares this Spanish Colonial hacienda with her two sons, three-year-old Wyatt and baby Levi, and without rushing she filled the rooms, piece by piece, often with items that she gathered whilst touring. The finished article shows the heart and soul that Crow put into the project, and it has an incredibly cosy (if such a mansion can be described as “cosy”) and personal feel. In particular I love the 19th-century iron and wood bicycle above the fireplace, the intricate tiled floors and, of course, that outdoor canvas pavilion. So if Crow and Jen-An invited me for margaritas round that pool, I’d be more than happy to oblige. I won’t hold my breath though.

fancy friday

I’m beyond excited at this point. I go on holiday tomorrow! One week staying at a villa in the South of France with my family and boyfriend, where I intend to do nothing but read books by the pool (including ‘One Day’ – I feel like the last person on the planet that hasn’t read it), eat French sticks and smelly cheese, and drink wine. And sleep. I’m also stupidly excited to be going on a plane journey that isn’t part of a work trip – it’s the simple things! I hope that you all have a lovely week. I promise to provide a few posts to keep you going with and even take a couple of snapshots in between naps, and I’ll see you on the other side. I guess I’d better think about packing…

Now, I’m aware that I may as well call this feature ‘Diane Kruger’s Look of the Week’, but bear with me. It’s Kruger. In Elie Saab. That just can’t be ignored. I desperately tried to find an alternative, even convincing myself that SJP in a floral Prabal Gurung could challenge for the title. So I asked my boyfriend to cast the deciding vote… to be the ‘Simon’, if you will. He replied, “Kruger looks classy and elegant, SJP looks like a foot.” So that settled it, I went for the un-foot-like Kruger. As for my room of the week, I took one look at that gold and glass table and crowned it the winner. The white sofa, bold artwork and rug, and vibrant flowers are all gorgeous, but that table knows that it’s centre of attention:

fancy friday

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you’re looking forward to the weekend (3 days in the UK thanks to the Bank Holiday!) – do you have anything fun lined up? I’m off to wedding #2 tomorrow, this time in the very grand surroundings of Hampton Court Palace… a bit of a change from the Yorkshire farm of last weekend, which was amazing in itself. Really looking forward to seeing friends and re-living uni days. Although better behaved, of course, it being a royal palace and everything.
Today I have a little end of the week treat for you. Who doesn’t like to unwind after a hard week of work with a well-deserved cocktail during Happy Hour. That wasn’t a question. I’ve been noticing that cupcakes are becoming ever more creative, encompassing every flavour under the sun, thanks to my friend Pinterest. So next time you have friends over, how about coordinating cocktails and cupcakes, and being forever known as the ‘Hostess with the Mostess’. I just dribbled on my keyboard a little bit.

Diane Kruger, how on earth do you do it? On anyone else the sequins, feathers and embroidered details on this Prabal Gurung creation would equal a big old mess, but of course Kruger pulls it off with aplomb. I love that word, ‘aplomb’. Anyway, she doesn’t even try! Minimal effort, immaculate result… look and learn, ladies. For my room of the week, I do like a bit of monochrome preppiness and since this living room comes complete with Hermès blanket (as lusted after here), no other contender came close:

fancy friday

Hurrah, it’s a sunny start to the weekend, I love it. This weekend I’m heading up to Yorkshire to attend the wedding of someone I’ve known since the age dot, and I can’t wait to spend time with my family and friends. The wedding is taking place on a farm, so we’re talking barn dancing, hog roasts and probably a bit of a festival atmosphere. I’m just praying that the sun continues to shine, because mud and my nude Zara peep-toes just won’t do! Do you have any plans for this weekend?
Now, I spend an inordinate amount of time on Pinterest. It’s an addiction, but a healthy one in terms of creativity. I can honestly spend hours just scrolling through the thousands of images – all the while being inspired, noting down ideas, drooling and repinning. I’ve created a number of boards (see here), but I’m sure many more will spring up with time; lately I’ve been inspired by chic neutral ensembles, fresh turquoise palettes, soft feminine interiors, breath-taking destinations, and a little bit of sparkle. With that in mind, here are some of my recent pins:

What do you think of my choices?
My look of the week goes to a newcomer who is starring in The Inbetweeners movie (definitely on the list to see), Laura Haddock. She’s far more glamorous than her name suggests, and at the recent premiere for the film she stole the show in sheer D&G. The gaggle of Z-listers in their shiny, showy gowns didn’t stand a chance. If this effort is anything to go by, we can expect big things from her red carpets appearances. For my room of the week, this kitchen really does it for me… the double doors to the garden, the rustic bench, the slightly industrial feel, all combine perfectly to create a space that would certainly be the heart of a home:
