style stalker: miranda kerr

One star who has recently been on my style radar is Miranda Kerr. Of course she’s known for being Orlando’s wife, a Vicky’s Secret model and the owner of a body that would surely not have sprung back so quickly after having a baby in the real world, but as well as all that, her fashion prowess is something to behold. Miranda’s ‘off duty’ looks are always impeccable… whether she’s running between shows at Paris fashion week (never have shorts and t-shirt looked so chic), or sashaying through the airport, Kerr nails it every time. I’ve honestly never seen her in a bad outfit. Browsing through her past looks, a certain theme crops up time and time again: monochrome. Very French. Very Chanel. So here’s Miranda’s black and white master-class, and how you can emulate her effortless “oh, this old thing?” style:

on the R-Pattz rumours: “People can say whatever they want. The interest is totally understandable, but when it’s personal to you, it’s like your life becomes a product, and I’m repelled by that. I don’t like to give away gems that people are gonna be like ‘Oh my God!’ So I’ll always just shrug it off – in fact, I always find it kind of funny, and not just with Rob.”
on the Breaking Dawn x-rated scenes: “It was tame! I’ve done my share of coming-of-age movies, but the ratings board know who our audience is, and can be like, ‘Hmm guys, just cool it a little.’ It’s funny, because in the book, you don’t see anything. It’s everyone’s imagination, so it’s entirely subjective. I hope it’s good!”
on the hype around the wedding dress: “I had to be so shrouded in secrecy the entire two days of filming… it was crazy. I was on full lockdown, as if I was wearing millions of dollars’ worth of diamonds, but it’s just a dress. I think the dress is beautiful, and I’m so excited for the wedding to be revealed. It was one of those moments you go, ‘This is something to remember.’
on getting in shape for honeymoon scenes: “Usually we’re all making fun of Taylor (Lautner) for working out so often, and then suddenly me and Rob were like, ‘Sh*t!’ and were running around the block while Taylor laughed at us.”
on her co-stars featuring on Glamour’s top 50 sexiest men list: “The first time Rob was ‘sexiest man in the world’ a couple of years ago, it was the biggest joke in the world. We never stopped taking the p*ss, and neither did he. But they’re all great guys and not… geez, now I sound like I’m generalising about attractive men, but there’s something a little vain about working out every single day, whereas they’re the greatest guys and all kind of goofy. That’s why it’s so funny.”

fancy friday

Happy Friday! I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t be happier to finally reach the weekend. Work stress has made this past week a real struggle, so two days stretched out in front of me (including ring shopping tomorrow – hell to the yeah) with nothing but relaxation and X Factor sounds pretty darn amazing. Do you have an exciting plans for the weekend?
As my friends and family know, I grew up being one of those pony-mad teens who would spend every spare minute around horses… completely obsessed. I still love horses, still dream of one day having my own, so the current horse print trend was bound to catch my eye. I especially like the white on black print dress, it’s so striking. I do find it mildly hilarious that my teenage uniform of jodhpurs, tall boots and quilted jacket is now fully en vogue. I couldn’t have been less trendy back then if I’d tried; I think it was partly due to the scraped back greasy hair and penchant for Benetton sweatshirts. It wasn’t a good time for me fashion-wise. Anyway, back to horse motifs… would you don this print?

Onto my look of the week and a dress that is bound to divide you. I will admit, on most people it would look like bridesmaid-gone-wrong. But Biel is not ‘people’. She’s an A-lister. There’s a difference. With the swept-up hair and Grecian belt, I think she looks stunning, but do tell me if you think differently! My room of the week was love at first sight. Imagine that was the scene of your breakfast every morning. Uh-huh, I know. The chandelier, the china display, the white kitchen… it makes me giddy just looking at it:

I hope you have an fantastic weekend whatever you’re doing and wherever you may be…

fancy friday

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you’ve had a good week. Mine has been spent celebrating wherever possible, and this weekend will be no different. I’m heading back to the country to share yet more bubbles with family and close friends, and just enjoy the ridiculously-happy-on-cloud-nine feeling that isn’t going anywhere fast. Am I nauseating? Ok, I’ll stop. Let’s talk interiors instead. A look that I am borderline obsessed with at the moment is Persian rugs. I’ve spent more time than is probably normal checking out some absolute beauties on eBay… even though I’m not actually in the market for an oriental rug at the moment, it can’t hurt to look, right? They look great anywhere (especially in the kitchen, gotta say). Even if a room has a stark, minimalist feel, add a Persian and it ups the cosy factor ten-fold. Another benefit of these rugs is that, as with Mulberry bags and George Clooney, they just get better with age. Are you a fan? Where do you think they look best in the home?

My look of the week goes to a Fancy Friday favourite, Camilla Belle. She is seriously flawless in this Ralph Lauren gown and fuchsia lips, and the detail on the train of the dress is exquisite. If I could look even one tenth as pulled together as this, I would be happy. As for my room of the week, well, of course it had to feature a Persian, but it also includes a sofa that may not be conducive to a TV dinner of beans on toast (especially with my tendency to spill), but sure as hell looks purdy:

on breaking off her engagement: “I was too young for marriage. I remember Beyoncé asked me one question: she said, “Well, you know what you want now, don’t you?” and I was like, “Yes.” It was so hard and embarrassing because everyone knew. I’d posed for the front cover of a magazine in my wedding dress and it was on sale! But sometimes you fall down and you learn from it.”
on being happy single: “I’m a big girl now. Before, I’d want to lean on somebody. Now I love the fact I can just be a single lady, chilling and hanging with my friends and travelling the world. It’s a pretty good life. I’m ready for marriage when the right time comes now, though.”
on working with Gary Barlow: “With all due respect to his wife, her husband has the nicest little hiney I have ever seen. But it’s his smile too. He’s very genuine. I love a person who is straight to the point.”
on staying in shape: “I love sugar and fried food, so my trainer gave me the 80/20 rule: 80% of the time you eat healthily and 20% you can have sweets, cocktails, or whatever! I try to exercise for 30 minutes a day. It’s my opportunity to take care of myself; it’s the best.”
on the pressure of being on prime-time TV: “For me it’s not about what the rest of the world think. I like to feel good naked. You want to look in the mirror and feel happy. It’s for me – nobody else. I spend a lot on clothes, so I like to feel good in them. But don’t get me wrong, it’s hard when sticky toffee pudding exists!”
