breakfast at holly’s house

My love affair with New York is no secret, so when I saw that the house made famous in Breakfast at Tiffany’s had been sold, my heart melted that little bit more when I clocked the pictures. The Upper East Side brownstone is currently divided into two apartments, but knocking them together would give you 10 bedrooms. Not that I’d need 10 bedrooms, but I’d be living in Holly’s house, and that would be good enough for me. Clearly I’d also need to invest in a ginger feline named “Cat”. And wear glamourous black dresses round the house. Funnily enough, another New York icon was sold this week… Carrie Bradshaw’s townhouse on Perry Street – see here. Now, although I wouldn’t say no (if I had the spare $9.85 mill), there’s something about it I can’t warm to. So thankfully I would only have had to pay out $5.97 mill for the Breakfast at Tiffany’s dream house. If that’s not being thifty, I don’t know what is.

art’s new generation

I love discovering new artists who produce the kind of paintings that I can imagine basing a whole room design around. Thanks to the genius website Degree Art, I’ve found a couple of beauties. Firstly there’s Sevan Garo, who reminds me very much of one of my favourites, Michelle Armas. That fourth painting down is uh-may-zing… I can just imagine it accompanying a fuchsia velvet sofa with turquoise accents. That’s happiness to me, right there. Then there’s Wendy Hyde who celebrates colour to the nth degree. Her paintings have an almost dream-like quality and, again, all I want to do is decorate around them. Tell me, lovely readers, are these young artists floating your boat?

Since it’s permanently drizzling at the moment, my trusty laptop is providing me with some much-needed sunshine. Kate Spade has exploded with Summer goodness, with my beloved aqua taking a front seat. And we’re seeing KS swimwear for the first time! Tell me that the below items don’t put a smile on your face. Dive in? Yes please.

new at mulberry

Lana Del Rey gets the fashion world’s nod of approval, as she’s the latest starlet to have a bag named after her. And not just any old bag. A Mulberry bag. All that schmoozing with Anna Win-tour, Palermo, the Olsens et al during Fashion Weeks clearly worked a treat. Obviously it’s nothing to do with her effortless style or anything. Nope. Definitely the schmoozing.

colour clashing

Sometimes, in theory, a colour combo shouldn’t work… although in actual fact it makes complete sense. Take orange, pink and green. The word “garish” immediately springs to mind, right? But this zesty trio is just bloomin’ delicious. Whether it’s an outfit, a colour-blocking shower curtain or flowers combining with interior details, I love the summery effect (Hear that, April Showers? Summer. Have a word). So tell me, lovely readers, is this threesome a do or a don’t?
