fancy friday

So that was my first 5-day week for a long time (I know, no sympathy), and it’s completely taken it out of me. Can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to a weekend with next to no plans. Except X Factor. Obv. Ooh, and tonight I have plans to go to Conran & Company HQ for a BlogTour2011 event. Thanks so much to My Deco for the invitation, I can’t wait to meet the UK and US bloggers who are attending. Not only do we get to see Sir Terence Conran’s apartment, we’ll also be viewing the new contemporary collection for M&S… so exciting.
I think it’s next week that the new season of Gossip Girl starts (it had better be, I can’t wait much longer), so thought I’d focus on the stand-out star of the show, Blair Waldorf. Yes, Serena may have the hair and the legs, but Blair has the razor-sharp wit, the compassion and the brains that SVDW patently lacks. I also love that she embraces quirkier fashion choices, totally owning every one. Even K-Middy styles herself on Miss Waldorf. Probably a coincidence, but that’s what I like to think. And then there’s Blair and Chuck – basically Ross and Rachel 2.0, but with scheming. I cannot wait to see what this season will bring (both fashion and story-wise)… who’s with me?

I know earlier this week I posted an autumnal look (see here), but this outfit that Charlize Theron donned at an HTC launch event transported me right back to summer. The colour is amaze, and works so well with her colouring. Emerald is huge at the moment and I think it looks especially good with a touch of metallic. This look is slightly ‘throw on a kaftan for the beach’, but Charlize looks like a green goddess in this Chloé number, so she’s forgiven. As for my room of the week… well, for one it matches my blog’s background. Reason enough? Oh and the duvet/pillow combo is perfection, as is the wallpaper against the gold accents. There, I’ve justified it:

I hope you have a wonderful weekend whatever you’re doing and wherever you may be…

dream home in west london

Completely, utterly, 100% smitten with this home. The dramatic open-plan living room, the abundance of white subway tiles, the fact that it manages to be cosy despite being so spacious, the giant mirror above the fireplace… I mean, seriously, are you kidding me? It couldn’t get any better. I think that could actually be my dream kitchen. Oh, and the little girl’s bedroom? I would have given my entire collection of My Little Ponies to have a room like that. Finally, if you were wondering, the black wrought-iron railings in the first pic were sourced from a French antiques market. Of course they were. *le sigh*.

home is where the heart is

I’m so happy that we finally have a online interiors magazine to call our own! The good news is that Heart Home more than holds its own amongst its overseas counterparts… and it’s even more enjoyable to read knowing that the homes featured are UK-based and that the designers/writers/stylists/bloggers/photographers are all home-grown talent. It’s a proud moment. Arianna (Arianna Interiors), Carole (Dear Designer’s Blog) and Daniel (Atelier Tally), you’ve done a fantastic job. I could continue to wax lyrical, but I think the best idea all round is for you to go and take a look for yourselves, then report back:

fancy friday

Happy Friday! I’m writing this from sunny Dorset by the sea… we’re staying in a beautiful cottage for the weekend for my mum’s *whisper* 60th birthday. She’s mortified that I’ve disclosed her age, but if you met her you would see that she doesn’t look anywhere near that. Daughter brownie points?! Anyway, we’re looking forward to scouring the (what I call) “bitty bit” shops for house trinkets, wandering around the harbour and enjoying lovely meals with family and friends, and a glass of bubbles or two. Do you have any exciting plans?
As promised, here are some snapshots from my holiday in the South of France. It was a blissful week and the area surrounding our villa was beyond stunning. We were nestled in the Pyrenees mountains, with views that didn’t even look real. The region has dozens of near perfect castles positioned on the peaks – it really was like going back in time. I may have come back several lbs heavier after a diet that consisted solely of bread, cheese and wine, but what’s a holiday without indulgence? And quaint little French markets. And napping. LOTS of napping.

My look of the week was a tough one seeing as NYFW dictated that A-listers were dressing up to the nines to perch daintily on the front row and look suitably bored. But ignoring the likes of Palermo et al, I’ve gone for Emily Blunt who looks devilishly good in Prada at the première for her upcoming film Your Sister’s Sister. It’s a very chic and simple look with muted colour blocking and minimal fuss in terms of accessories. As for my room of the week, I fell in love with the combination of red, white and blue… throw in some plantation shutters and a clawfoot bath and I’m a goner. And those cupboard doors are perfection:

When news hit the Twittersphere that High Gloss magazine was no more, fans were understandably saddened… it was such a beautifully put together ‘shelter mag’, and had been one of my favourites. Although the blow was softened slightly this week when I discovered Anthology (not to be confused with another of my loves, Anthropologie), which, although much smaller in volume, is equally well formed. So far there have been four issues, each with a different theme, and the covers alone are pretty special. Inside the images are just what you expect from such a mag, full of stunning photography and interiors that you immediately want to emulate in your home. Take a look for yourself and let me know what you think:
