interior trend: hexagonal tiles

Good morning everyone! Hope you all had lovely weekends. Mine was exactly what I needed before an extremely busy work week ahead. For today’s post, I wanted to show you some inspiration that has been catching my eye lately. Hexagonal tiles. Be they floor or wall tiles, in the kitchen or bathroom, there is something about them that is so super-chic… especially when they’re mixed with subways. They have a French bistro-type feel to them. Which, in turn, makes me think of French onion soup and steak frites… and croque monsieurs… sorry, what were we talking about?!

As I’m writing this, I’m not gonna lie, my eyes are almost closing. Work has blown up this week and with that and a personal to-do list longer than the one at work, I feel like I’m juggling too many balls in the air. But I know that one long sleep over the weekend will make me feel like a new person. Do you have any exciting plans for the weekend? Talking of exciting… Mulberry have gone and done it again. Their new collections made my jaw drop, to, the, floor. I can’t actually believe that they’ve combined a Bayswater with scalloped edges… forget the ‘Alexa’… the ‘El’ anyone?! I’m definitely a Cookie girl – although that floor-length navy tulle dress from the Travel edit is also ri-goddamn-diculous. Which collection are you drawn to?

For my look of the week we have Jennifer Aniston 2.0. Maybe it’s her boy Justin, maybe it’s a new stylist, who knows, but it’s a real change from her usual uniform of black with black strappy sandals. Jen-An has never looked better. I know she’s always had good hair, but she’s done a little something-something with the colour and I love it. For my room of the week, you have to be pretty brave to throw so many patterns and textures together, but this is an example of when it pays off. I can’t stop staring:

I hope you have a beautiful weekend whatever you’re doing and wherever you may be…

Have I found a treat for you! I receive quite a few emails about stores that might interest my readers (not to mention me!), but sometimes when I open them up they are massively disappointing, and I click out of them in under ten seconds flat. However there is the occasional offering that has me at ‘www’. Rigby & Mac was one of them. Hold your horses! Stay with me for a sec. So the beauty of this family business founded by Penny Tomlinson and now her son, Dan Rigby and daughter-in-law, Katharine Maclaverty (hence ‘Rigby & Mac’) is that they have three shops within one, depending on your personal taste – Feminine Vintage, Modern Country and Quirky Eclectism. I think I’m mostly the first two, with a bit of quirk thrown in. Therefore here are my picks, which are a mix of the three. Go browse their lovely homewares, jewellery and accessories over a cuppa, then report back with which style appeals to you the most:

Are you bummed that Monday has come around too quickly again? Yep, me too. But I have a treat for you today that will hopefully give you a lift. Check out this apartment in Linnestaden, Sweden that is so beautiful that I want to lick the screen. Firstly, that fireplace… so unusual and decorative, it’s a real statement feature in the room. The high ceilings and white walls give such a feeling of space and the effective use of bright colours is just enough to add interest. And some people may think that although it’s a stunning apartment, it wouldn’t be conducive to a family home, owing to the overarching white theme. Think again! There’s a charmingly presented child’s room, which is as tasteful as the rest of the space. My favourite part? That balcony. Proof that with the right ingredients a small outdoor space can be transformed into something quite lovely:

What are your thoughts on this Swedish home?

Even though my week’s only been four days, it’s been a hard ol’ slog. That’s why I couldn’t be happier to be meeting up with one of my absolute favourite people later on for an evening of cocktails, cheesy music and much-needed gossip. The rest of the weekend will be spent catching up with admin (I can’t physically bring myself to calling it “wedmin”, too twee) and emails that have been neglected for far too long. Rock n roll huh? Oh and there’ll be a nap thrown in too. It’s the weekend, folks. Don’t hate. Now, if you had shifted your eyesight south before reading this, you’ll have seen the vision that is Marchesa at NYFW. Marchesa deliver THE most breathtaking collection every single fashion week. Ok, so Elie Saab are up there too, but it’s something about the tulle and the embroidery and the feathers that makes it feel like you’re inside a dream. Basically it’s fairytale clothing and I cannot wait to see the likes of Elle Fanning, Lively, Kruger and Camilla Belle bring these esquisite gowns to life on the red carpet:

For my look of the week, I’ve done a complete 180 on last week’s choice. That was sleek and black, this is fun and massively colourful. Poppy Delevingne carries off most things well, but she looks especially good in short and flirty… and it may have been the very fashionable ‘Elle Style Awards’, but that didn’t stop the intrepid socialite from opting for a high street choice. The slicked back ponytail is the perfect style in order to keep the Topshop dress the centre of attention. For my room of the week I went for an unapologetically girly bedroom, with a clothes rail providing a unique headboard. And those white-washed floorboards are divine:
