fancy friday

Summer is really upon us now and I couldn’t be happier… in fact, the evenings are so light that last night I was in bed before it was even fully dark. Or maybe that’s just my old age. So welcome to the weekend everyone! I hope you’ve all got some lovely plans, whether you’re busy doing things or busy doing nothing. I have two birthdays to celebrate… my own (yep, still – I told you I have a fondness for ‘birthday months’) and one of my best friends, B. The rest of the time will be spent enjoying some of my presents – The King’s Speech, ‘Decorate’ by Holly Becker, and a bubble bath lit with my Diptyque ‘Mimosa’ candle. Not forgetting spending quality time with the new crop of magazines for this month. I’m easily pleased!

This week’s most stylish look goes to Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester who looks radiant in this Vera Wang outfit at the Harrods launch of VW’s ‘Lovestruck’ perfume – the combination of sun-kissed skin, lightened hair and the nude pleated blouse really works for her. And as for this room, the white walls and the splash of colour is perfection… and I’m such a sucker for trunks at the moment. Lastly, that couch has ‘nap’ written all over it:

I hope you have a beautiful weekend whatever you’re doing and wherever you may be…

zara: spring/summer 2011

Now if you’ve been anywhere near the high street lately, and more specifically in Zara, then you’ll know that our favourite Spanish import (after tapas, obv) is quite simply uh-may-zing this season. It ticks off all the major trends, but not in a ‘only looks good on Blake Lively’ kinda way… yes, I’m talking about you, Karen Millen. The colour-block items are almost edible, the fabrics and styles will hold up for a good few years to come, and the shoes and bags make me want to sell a kidney in order to collect the whole bunch. Zara’s versatile blazers are a hit with the fashion world’s new and longtime crushes, Pippa Middleton and Olivia Palermo, and… ok, enough gushing. Just take a look at their lookbook for starters:

Here is my pick of their stunning range. It seems cruel to pick a favourite when the others can hear, but I’m going to go with my heart and those blue and green wedges (accessorise with a plain white tee and denim cut-offs):

hot summer shoes

I’m back! Sorry for the radio silence… after an incredibly tough week working in DC, I took full advantage of my time off and celebrated the big 3-0 in style (which meant lots of Champagne and no concept of time – heaven). I have had such an amazing week with my boyfriend, friends and family, and have been thoroughly spoilt. If this is a taster of what your thirties have to offer, then I’m all for it!

I now feel revitalised and ready to get blogging again, especially after my recent shopping trips and buying armfuls of US interior and fashion magazines at Dulles airport for *ahem* research purposes. There is so much shoe goodness out there at the moment, but three trends in particular are making me drool: espadrilles, pointed courts and thong sandals. And just for you, here is a selection of what’s available right now on the high street. Which style takes your fancy?

style stalker: kate bosworth

Kate Bosworth personifies summer for me… maybe it’s because I remember her most in the should-be-a-bad-movie-but-I-secretly-loved, Blue Crush. Although she can pull off some amazing looks on the red carpet (simple + Calvin Klein), her sense of style really comes into its own when she’s not dolled up to the nines, or is looking unfeasibly cool at Coachella. Her California-girl chic is an easy look to emulate, especially since she’s fond of high street stores such as Topshop and H&M. Here are three easy-breezy looks that she does so well:

{1. Kookai devore top – £19 / 2. Warehouse capri pants – £40 / 3. ASOS floral clutch – £15 / 4. Warehouse bow belt – £20 / 5. Dune Didier heels – £48}

{1. Topshop American flag tee – £22 / 2. Miss Selfridge denim shorts – £28 / 3. Next aviator sunglasses – £10 / 4. Topshop desert boots – £36 / 5. Accessorize ethnic bangle – £7}

{1. Planet black jumper – £63.20 / 2. Oasis crop trousers – £42 / 3. Dorothy Perkins cateye sunglasses – £8 / 4. Star by Julien Macdonald slouchy handbag – £36 / 5. Dune plaited sandals – £55}

mint condition

Welcome to Monday – I trust you all had a great weekend? Mine was pretty quiet, but I definitely needed the down-time before embarking on a gruelling 8-day work trip… but then I get a week off to celebrate the big 3-0, so no complaints here!
Today I am bringing you a trend that was all over the S/S11 catwalks and looks just as good on your walls as it does in your wardrobe. Mint green is one of those ultra-feminine colours that has the power to make you look as fresh as a daisy, especially paired with a crisp white. And Dorothy Perkins have combined it with another favourite trend of mine, scalloped edges – Dolly Ps are just knocking it out of the park at the moment! This pastel is perfect for summer, and is one of those hues that really sets off that holiday glow to your skin. Here is some minty inspiration to freshen up the beginning of your week:
