hot trend: greek key

If you’re not the type who goes for floral or abstract patterns in their home decor, and you gravitate more towards chevrons and prints with more of a geometric quality, then the hot trend of Greek Key could be perfect for you. It’s a very simple and classic pattern which, added to the borders of curtains or boldly featured on rugs, can evoke an incredibly glamorous feel. I am noticing more and more pieces of furniture and accessories that incorporate Greek Key as well – I especially love the gold lamp base below, it’s so striking. Are you a fan of this motif?

objects of desire

Since summer seems to have deserted us after a brief flirtation, I was drawn to this cosy knitted sweater dress by Vionnet, with its sparkly detail. In fact, any of these three beauties would brighten up even the dullest of days…

interior style down under

I hope you all had lovely weekends. Mine was just what the doctor ordered… totally relaxed with no schedule whatsoever. Apart from Saturday night when my boyfriend (who clearly knows me very well) treated me to an anniversary meal at a restaurant-come-jazz-club, which was right up my street. The food was incredible and then over drinks we enjoyed a performance from an amazing jazz singer who covered both classic and contemporary songs. Such a perfect night.
Onto today’s post and I’m taking you right around the world to Australia (Brisbane to be precise), home to two very talented interior stylists. Hayley Hayes and Tracey Leeson created Porchlight Interiors in 2007, combining their passion for interior design and taking on projects ranging from single room designs to whole houses. The results are beyond beautiful – the rooms are clean and fresh without being clinical, and the colour palettes really reflect the outdoor lifestyle down under. You can just tell these girls have impeccable taste, and you can also bet your bottom (Aussie) dollar that I’ve taken notes for a beach house in the future:

fancy friday

The sun is shining here in London and it’s Friday – doesn’t get old, does it. Hope you’ve all had good weeks and are looking forward to kicking back and enjoying the weekend! Even though this has been another 4-day week in the office for me (god bless events down-time), these past few days have really taken it out of me and I’m more than ready for a weekend completely devoid of major activity or travel… apart from an anniversary dinner (3yrs!) with my boyfriend on Saturday night. I have no idea where we’re going and I can’t wait. I have zero plans for the rest of the time and that’s exactly how I like it!
I believe it was The Man Repeller (if you don’t know who she is, then please familiarise yourself – you won’t regret it) who first coined the term ‘arm party’ (correct me if I’m wrong) and now it’s turned into a mini revolution. An arm party refers to stacked bracelets… no particular order, just piled on as far up towards your elbow as possible. My favourite type of arm party involves a big ol’ hulking man-watch – preferably Marc Jacobs or Michael Kors but I’m not fussy – and a combo of bangles, chunky chains and statement pieces. The beauty of this concept is that you can’t do it wrong! You throw them on, you look cool. Fact. And this kind of party isn’t reserved for just your arms… oh no, the neck party is also bang on trend with all the statement necklaces around at the moment. You might want to steer clear of an ankle party though, unless you’re Lindsey Lohan and you have no choice. Here’s the look in action:

Want to organise one of these shindigs? Then look no further, my friends, here’s one I made earlier:

{1. Marc Jacobs rose gold watch – £200 / 2. USC Timmi Swizzle bracelet – £7 / 3. ASOS circle links bracelets – £6 / 4. Evans bead bangle – £12 / 5. Whistles medlon chain bracelet – £18 / 6. Republic twisted bracelet – £5.99 / 7. Dorothy Perkins beaded deco stretch – £15}
My favourite look of the week goes to supermodel Karolina Kurkova, who shone in this fuchsia pink satin Sophie Theallet Resort 2012 gown at a Film & Music Festival in Ischia, Italy. The navy sash is colour-block perfection, and the look is made even better by the simple hair, matching pink lips and a Chanel cuff. Love. It. All. And the room of the week goes to one that I just pinned to my ‘At Home’ Pinterest board (for all my boards, see here) – I’m more than a little taken by that velvet bench at the end of the table and the mismatched chairs (which I posted about earlier in the week – see here). I’m also smitten by the contrast between the white and steel elements… and open shelves! I actually want to copy this kitchen down to the last detail, it’s that good:

I hope you have a fantastic weekend whatever you’re doing and wherever you may be…

modern monochrome

Browsing through the July/Aug edition of Lonny magazine, I noticed that a lot of the rooms they showcased were dominated by black walls or black features. And I must say, I was definitely won over. I think you have to be very careful using black, especially in rooms without an abundance of natural light, but it can look so dramatic and downright fabulous. This office in particular caught my eye, as the dark walls make the chandelier, antlers and bus blind (I need to get me one of those – obsessed) stand out all the more:

Now, call me a wuss, but I don’t think I’d be brave enough to go ALL out with the black, so I feel that a heavy dose of white to compliment the black would be in order. Striking black floorboards, white walls and black details would be the look I’d go for – although I’ve suddenly got a huge crush on thick black and white stripes, be they on walls, rugs or armchairs (erm, how much are you in love with that chair with the stack of books?!):
