another brick in the wall

Before I found my current flat I looked at a building which had living space very much akin to a hotel. It was completely soulless. As much as I love staying in hotels when I’m on holiday, I certainly wouldn’t like to live in one. Blank walls, straight lines, that “new” smell… basically devoid of any personality. Which is why as soon as I stepped into my present place, I knew instantly that it was the one for me. It has stripped floorboards which creak, a (non-working but) beautiful fireplace, antique taps, sash windows and character. I don’t know about you, but I gotta have features, period or otherwise. Which is why I’m more than a little enamoured with exposed brick walls. Of course, there are brick walls and there are brick walls (unworn bricks? Yeuch), but I’m thinking along these lines:

If you’re a fan of the texture but like things to be a little more uniform when it comes to the finish, then how about painting over the bricks. I’m a big fan of the whitewashed look, but that mint is heaven:

What do you think of the look?
