homes for the holiday

Morning everyone! Hope you all had a lovely weekend whatever you got up to. With only 27 days to go till Christmas, my festive rituals have started… this includes watching the movies that you can only really watch this time of year. These include Home Alone, Love Actually, Elf, Serendipity, and The Holiday. Even though the acting skills in The Holiday are kinda dire (I find watching it whilst nursing a mug of mulled wine usually helps), I’m still charmed by it. It’s the ‘gumption’ and the old guy climbing the stairs at the end, gets me every time. The other reason I watch it each year is for the amazing house interiors, which is no surprise since director Nancy Meyers is the brains behind it. Remember the covetable decor in It’s Complicated and Something’s Gotta Give? Yup, Meyers also responsible. First up is Diaz/Amanda’s LA mansion, with its vast rooms, laid-back Californian vibe and that kitchen:

Then who can forget the dreamy cottage in the snowy English countryside (because in films, England is always snowy at Christmas), belonging to Winslet’s character Iris. It’s the buttoned velvet ottoman, the exposed beams and open fires that do it for me. Just gorgeous:
